Why bees?

Before we jump into the steps, a little confession: I’ve always had a soft spot for bees.

Not just because they’re important (which they absolutely are!), but because they’re round, chubby, and totally charming to draw. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve added a tiny bee in the corner of a doodle just to make it sweeter.

Plus, let’s be honest… who can resist those teeny antennae and pastel wings?

Step 1: Draw the head

Start by drawing a nice round circle. This will be our bee’s cute little head!

Try to place it slightly to the left side of your paper — we’ll be adding more to the right in the next steps.

Step 2: Add a happy face

Let’s bring our bee to life with a smile! Draw two small ovals for the eyes and add a curved line in between for a cheerful little smile.

Keep it simple and cute!

Step 3: Draw the body

Now let’s give our bee a body! Draw a large oval shape attached to the head on the right side.

This will be the bee’s round and fuzzy little body, ready for some stripes soon!

Step 4: Add the wings

Let’s help our bee take flight! Draw two curved, teardrop-shaped wings on top of the body.

One wing should be slightly behind the other to create a cute layered look.

Step 5: Add stripes and a stinger

Time to give your bee its classic look! Draw a few curved lines across the body to create the bee’s stripes.

Then add a small pointed shape at the back for the stinger — don’t worry, this little bee is totally friendly!

Step 6: Add legs and antennae

Let’s give our bee some wiggly little legs! Draw three short curved lines under the body.

Then add two antennae on top of the head, each with a small circle at the tip. Now our bee can walk and wiggle!

Step 7: Fill in the stripes and antennae

Now it’s time to add some bold contrast! Fill in every other stripe on the body with black, and color in the circles at the ends of the antennae too.

This gives your bee its classic striped look!

Step 8: Add color and final details

Now for the fun part — coloring! Fill in the body with yellow and leave the black stripes as they are.

Add a soft blush to the cheeks, light blue wings, and feel free to decorate the background with flowers, leaves, and little colorful dots to make your bee feel at home.

Just finished your bee?

Amazing job! But don’t stop there — if you enjoyed this little buzzing friend, I think you’ll love these other drawing tutorials I’ve created:

They’re all just as beginner-friendly and full of cuteness — perfect if you want to build your own little animal doodle collection.

My biggest tip if you’re just starting out

Don’t worry about perfection. Drawing is supposed to be fun, not stressful!
Some of my favorite sketches started as wobbly lines and turned into something totally magical. If your bee looks a little crooked or your lines aren’t perfect — it’s still YOUR bee. And that makes it one of a kind.

So grab your pencil, make a mess, color outside the lines, and most importantly — enjoy the process.
