If you’ve ever wondered how to draw a Christmas cat in the coziest, cutest way possible, you’re in the right place.
Whenever December rolls around and I pull out my sketchbook, one of the first characters I always end up drawing is a festive little kitty. Maybe it’s because I grew up with a very mischievous gray tabby who used to curl up inside the Christmas tree (yes… inside), or maybe it’s just because drawing adorable holiday characters helps me slow down and actually enjoy the season.

Either way, this project has a special place in my heart — and I hope it becomes a new favorite for you too.
Over the years, many readers have told me they want to draw something cute and seasonal, but they don’t know where to start.
Maybe you’ve felt the same way:
- “I want something easy but still impressive!”
- “I can follow steps, but I always overthink the details.”
- “Drawing animals is fun, but clothing them in outfits feels intimidating.”
Trust me — I’ve been there too.
That’s exactly why I created this friendly, beginner-friendly Christmas cat drawing tutorial. It’s simple enough for new artists, but still detailed enough to feel magical by the time you’re done.
And yes — I personally drew every single step of this guide. ❤️

Step 1: Draw the Bottom of the Head

Start your Christmas cat by sketching a wide, rounded “U” shape. The red line shows the bottom half of the head, which will give your kitty a cute, soft look.
Keep the curve nice and smooth — it doesn’t need to be perfect!
Step 2: Add the Cat’s Ears

Now, draw two curved ear shapes on top of the head outline. The new red lines show the outer edges of the ears, gently slanting upward for a cute look. Keep them soft and rounded — this will help your Christmas kitty look extra friendly!
Step 3: Connect the Ears

Add a gentle curved line between the two ears, as shown in red. This closes the top of the head and gives your Christmas cat a nice rounded shape. Keep the curve soft and even to match the cute style of the drawing!
Step 4: Draw the Face Features

Add two small circles for the eyes and a tiny oval nose in the center. Then draw a short curved line with two little “smile” curves on each side, just like in the red lines.
These simple shapes give your Christmas cat a sweet, friendly expression!
Step 5: Add the Inner Ears

Draw small triangle shapes inside each ear, as shown in red. These inner ear details help your Christmas cat look even cuter and give the ears a bit more depth.
Keep the triangles soft and rounded to match the friendly style of the drawing!
Step 6: Draw the Whiskers

Add three short curved lines on each side of the face, just like the red lines. These simple whiskers make your Christmas cat look extra playful and lively.
Try to keep them evenly spaced, but don’t worry — a little variation adds charm!
Step 7: Add Cute Fur Stripes

Draw three curved stripes on the forehead and one small stripe on each cheek.
These simple markings give your Christmas cat extra character and make the face look even more adorable.
Keep the lines soft and rounded to match the cute style!
Step 8: Start the Santa Hat Trim

Draw a wide curved line across the top of the head. This will become the fluffy trim of the Santa hat.
Keep the curve soft and rounded so it sits nicely on the cat’s head!
Step 9: Draw the Top of the Santa Hat

Add a large curved line above the trim. This creates the main shape of the Santa hat sitting on the cat’s head.
Make the curve tall and rounded so the hat looks soft and festive!
Step 10: Add the Fold of the Hat

Draw a short curved line on the right side of the hat, as shown in red. This little line creates the folded part of the Santa hat, giving it a soft and cozy look.
It helps the hat feel more natural and a bit floppy — just like a real Santa hat!
Step 11: Add the Fluffy Pom-Pom

Draw a small circle at the end of the hat fold. This will be the fluffy pom-pom of the Santa hat.
Keep it nice and round — we’ll add the fuzzy detail in a later step to make it extra cute!
Step 12: Add a Small Detail to the Hat Fold

Draw a short curved line just before the pom-pom, as shown in red.
This tiny detail shows the fabric folding over and helps the Santa hat look softer and more natural.
It’s a subtle touch, but it adds a lot of charm!
Step 13: Draw the Fluffy Collar of the Coat

Add a wide oval shape under the head, as shown in red. This will become the soft, fluffy top trim of the Santa coat.
Keep the curves smooth and rounded so it looks cozy and sits naturally around the cat’s neck!
Step 14: Add the Bottom Fluffy Trim

Draw another rounded oval shape a bit lower than the first one. This creates the lower fluffy trim of the Santa coat.
Make it slightly wider so it matches the shape of the body and keeps the coat looking soft and cozy!
Step 15: Draw the Sides of the Coat

Add two short vertical lines on each side to form the edges of the Santa coat, then add a longer line in the center to create the front opening.
These lines start shaping the body and give the coat structure while keeping the design simple and cute!
Step 16: Add the Fluffy Sleeve Cuffs

Draw two small rounded shapes on each side of the coat to create the fluffy cuffs of the sleeves.
Keep them soft and curved so they match the cozy look of the rest of the Santa outfit.
These little cuffs help complete the classic Christmas coat style!
Step 17: Shape the Sleeves

Add two slightly curved lines extending upward from the cuffs to form the sleeves of the Santa coat.
Keep the lines soft so the sleeves look cozy and rounded, matching the overall cute style of your Christmas cat!
Step 18: Draw the Paws

Add two small curved shapes just under the fluffy trim to create the cat’s paws resting in front. Keep them simple and rounded — this gives your Christmas cat an adorable, gentle pose!
Step 19: Add the Fluffy Pants Cuffs

Draw two short rounded shapes below the coat to create the fluffy cuffs of the Santa pants.
Keep them low and evenly spaced so they’ll line up nicely with the legs in the next steps.
These soft trims complete the cozy Christmas outfit!
Step 20: Draw the Legs

Add two short vertical lines above each fluffy cuff to form the cat’s legs. Keep them straight and simple so they fit neatly between the coat and the pants cuffs.
This gives your Christmas cat a sturdy, upright pose!
Step 21: Add the Pants Seam

Draw a small curved line between the legs to create the seam of the Santa pants.
This tiny detail helps define the shape of the outfit and makes the pants look more complete. Simple, but very effective!
Step 22: Draw the Feet

Add two rounded shapes at the bottom of the legs to form the cat’s feet. Keep them wide and softly curved to match the cute, chibi style of the drawing.
These little feet help your Christmas cat stand firmly and adorably!
Step 23: Add the Toe Details

Draw three tiny curved lines on each foot to show the cat’s toes. These small details make the paws look even cuter and give your Christmas cat a bit more personality!
Step 24: Draw the Tail

Add a long, curved tail on the side of the body. Keep the shape smooth and rounded so it matches the soft, friendly look of your Christmas cat.
The tail adds balance and completes the cute pose!
Step 25: Add Tail Stripes

Draw several short curved lines along the tail to create cute stripes. Space them evenly and follow the curve of the tail to keep everything looking natural.
These markings give your Christmas cat even more charm and personality!
Step 26: Add Festive Decorations

Draw a few cute holiday elements around your Christmas cat — like stars, hearts, holly leaves, and tiny dots.
These simple shapes make the drawing feel cheerful and festive, giving your artwork a fun holiday atmosphere!
Step 27: Add Color

Finish your Christmas cat by coloring in the drawing.
Use festive reds for the Santa outfit, a soft gray for the fur, and bright greens and yellows for the decorations.
Add gentle shading if you like — this final touch brings your cute holiday kitty to life!
