Why This Airplane Drawing Is Perfect for Beginners

One of the biggest challenges I hear from readers is this:
they want to draw, but complex tutorials feel overwhelming.

That’s exactly why I created this airplane drawing in a soft, rounded style. It focuses on:

  • simple shapes instead of technical details
  • smooth lines that are easy to correct
  • a cute final result that still looks finished

This how to draw an airplane guide works whether you’re drawing with a pencil, a pen, or digitally. It’s also great for kids, sketchbook practice, or relaxed creative time.

Step 1: Draw the Main Body Shape

Start by drawing a long, rounded shape for the airplane’s body, just like you see in red.
We begin this base shape a little differently than usual because we leave two small gaps where the wings will go later — this makes the final drawing look much cleaner and nicer.

Tip: You can also draw the shape fully and erase the wing areas afterward, but if you do that, press lightly with your pencil so no lines remain.

Step 2: Add the First Wing

Now draw a rounded, leaf-like shape coming out from the lower side of the airplane body, just like the red shape shown.

Keep the wing soft and curved, and let it overlap the body slightly — this helps the airplane look cute and nicely balanced.

Step 3: Draw the Tail Wing

Next, add a small rounded shape at the back of the airplane for the tail wing.

Keep it simple and slightly tilted so it feels playful and matches the soft, cute style of the drawing.

Step 4: Add the Top Tail Fin

Now draw a tall, curved shape on top of the back of the airplane to create the tail fin.

Let it lean slightly backward and keep the lines smooth — this gives the airplane a friendly, cartoon-like look.

Step 5: Add the Far Wing

Now draw a small curved shape on top of the airplane’s body to show the wing on the opposite side.

Because of the viewing angle, only a part of this wing is visible — keep it simple and let it follow the curve of the body so the airplane looks more natural.

Step 6: Shape the Nose

Now add a short curved line at the front of the airplane to define the nose.

Keep the curve soft and rounded — this small detail helps the airplane look friendly and gives the body more dimension.

Step 7: Draw the Windows

Now add the windows along the side of the airplane.

Draw two small rounded squares near the front for the cockpit, then place a few more evenly spaced windows along the body. Keep them simple and softly rounded to match the cute style.

Step 8: Add Fun Details

Now decorate the space around the airplane with a few simple shapes, like small circles and sparkles.

These playful details help the airplane feel like it’s flying and add a fun, magical touch to your drawing.

Step 9: Color and Finish Your Airplane

Now it’s time to bring your airplane to life with color.

Fill in the body, wings, windows, and nose using bright, cheerful colors, then add color to the small details around it.

Take your time and enjoy the process — your cute airplane drawing is complete!

Drawing Is Supposed to Feel Fun (Not Stressful)

One thing I’ve learned through years of drawing is this:
progress comes from enjoying the process, not from chasing perfect results.

Every how to draw an airplane tutorial I create is meant to feel encouraging, not intimidating. If your lines wobble a little or your shapes aren’t perfect, that’s part of the charm. That’s how personality shows up in a drawing.
